Sutter Says: (source)
The Truth: As for the Navy Cross, it is true that it is second only to the Congressional
Medal of Honor in value. It is awarded to individuals exhibiting extraordinary
heroism in combat, which is why those who claim it fraudulently devalue the
enormous sacrifice made by those who earned it. Jim Sutter was exposed as a fraud on military forums in 2005 and has since quietly dropped his
phony list of itemized combat medals. Unfortunately for him, he told too many
lies to too many people prior to this. His true record will always be there.
He is a shameful little man. (source)
That he was awarded the prestigious Navy Cross and the the Medal of Valor:
"I am now a civilian, but I served my country, and received the Navy Cross, (the
highest award from the Navy), the Dept of Defense Medal of Valor, and the Purple
Heart. So I like to think that I am somewhat qualified to speak to "espirit de
corps".
Not to be outdone by himself, Sutter later added the Bronze Star and
three more Purple Hearts to his resume:
"US Navy veteran, retired. LCDR. Special interest in counter-terrorism. Navy
Cross, Bronze Star, four Purple Hearts"

The Navy has no record of a Medal of Valor, Bronze Star or any Purple Hearts
ever having been awarded to Jim Michael Sutter, XXX-XX-XX58.
